For those that care

I was talking with a dev friend of mine who's very experienced in programming about haxball. Got him to check it out and he sees the potential the game has. He's going to undertake a project to create a form of replica of the game, in terms of physics. However, he will be:

    [li]Adding an account system
      [li]No more codewords (potentially)[/li]
    [/li]
    [li]Doing it in HTML5
      [li]More support than flash (current)[/li]
    [/li]
    [li]Making dedicated servers possible
      [li]Similar to minecraft[/li]
      [li]Less reliance on hosts[/li]
    [/li]
    [li]Making a forum for feedback[/li]

He said he's going to make a single player demo and will give me the link to distribute to you guys and to euro leagues and shit, and get feedback from everyone on what can be improved on the game.

Progress from a few hours ago.

No, it's not a joke. My friend doesn't play the game himself. He's a programmer who I was discussing the game with. Like I said, he sees the potential the game has and is willing to undertake the project of creating a better version of haxball. The forum was his own personal forum that he added the feedback section into instead of making an entirely new forum solely for this project. The more feedback people give, the better the games gonna come out. I look at it this way. Basro has given up on doing anything with haxball. With no dev working on the game, it can go nowhere. We have here a chance to get a game very similar to haxball, but with much improvement that would help out and progress the game. We could actually have national competitions without lag being a factor any more. We could have stat tracking and accounts that would make league play much easier. Point is, we could have much more, but haxball is dev-less, and this guy intends to make a better version. I say why not give it a shot. If you don't like it, you could always come back to haxball. But if haxball had more much needed features, would you turn it down?

@naho: if he's here. I was told by haxleague.com that you had the physics mechanisms for haxball? If so, they would help tremendously so this improved version still FEELS like haxball, which is the key to it's success.

what potential does haxball have. maybe basro saw that haxball has reached a plateau and moved on to more prosperous projects

and

how will lag become a nonfactor

bcus ders nothing concrete on the forum, the admin doesnt talk about what language is he going to use or what kind of libraries/engines he may use.

me suggestion would be ->

HTML5 web sockets for the connection or there is node.js(havent got much info about this) but from what I can tell is a javascript library that allows TCP connection.

Box2D for HTML5 library for physics -> https://code.google.com/p/box2d-html5/

also jonni showed me there has been some attempts on github good resource. tbh jonni shud go full time creating new haxball :thumbup:

Tell your friend to get a basic clue on collision detection with different measures of force applied by input, which are directly affected by velocity, acceleration and force.

and then have him come here tell us all about how lag won't matter

because then at least I'll get some humor out of all this SMOKE

You gathered his "lack of knowledge" from what? He's not a script kiddy like most of the people who play haxball are. He's an actual programmer... it's what he does. I'm sure he has a relevant understanding of how physics in games work. Lag will always be present in games, regardless what type of multiplayer game it is. The difference is how much ping plays a factor due to how the networking is structured. :fp:

I respect that. I'm also awaiting more screenshots. Here is his latest posts:

In a thread asking for Multiplayer feedback where someone asked how it was going to work:
turbo614 wrote:You'll have an exe that you dl. Play offline or connect to the server. Eventually,assuming there's enough people to do this,we can have servers that people host(like minecraft) to play on as well. I'm thinking of a dedicated server for league games and tournaments.an " official server".

In a thread asking if there's a time frame on when it will be done by:
turbo614 wrote:Great question! I'm not sure why I didn't post the screenshot here. Ill do so in a bit. But to answer your question,I stopped the graphics layout for now so that I can concentrate on the physics side. I want it to be perfect. The graphics part will be the easiest to do anyway. As far as when I'll get a working version up and running.....I will post an exe on this site through the entire process. I feel like thats a step above what devs normally do. As it is right now. One player can be moved around the screen. The ball is there. The second player is there. So far,that's what I have. I wouldn't say its playable,but nevertheless I'll throw the exe up in a bit. Fully functional will be a while yet,since I've only dug into this around Saturday,I believe.

As soon as I learn of new developments, such as the release of the first beta .exe, I'll distribute it to everyone along with a virus scan so people aren't scared thinking they're going to be infected. If you'd prefer, you could also join the temp forum he's using, which is posted in the OP. He will be distributing it there, so you get it directly from the source, for whomever is interested in this.

He's released a beta version on his forum (link is in the OP). He will be trying to release a new version at least once a week, keeping us in the loop with updates and whatnot. Currently it's a little far from hax in terms of completion and physics, but he's working on it. He's made significant progress so far, and is taking in all feedback to make the game better. You can check it out and give feedback yourself if you choose to do so on his forum. Just keep in mind he also works full time so he does this mostly on the weekend in his free time. If you're genuinely interested in an improved haxball, then why not take a few minutes of your day and check it out and give your feedback on it.

Yes it still has a ways to go, but instead of being a douche and claiming it's bullshit, I don't see the harm in at least entertaining the idea that someone is trying to make the game better for us.

Dont worry about em shawn, if the game is basically identical with added features it'll work for sure.
