We have heard something about the next season will be 4v4 trying to addapt to other European leagues. I don't know if that's true or not, but the fear has installed in our heads, so for that reason we are creating an anti 4v4 collective called "Anti 4v4 Collective".

Please, don't make a 4v4 league!!! Support the Anti 4v4 Collective putting it in your signature!!!

Thank you.

I'm was against 4v4 at the start of the season, but now as long as there is a 3 man def rule, I'm all for 4v4 even though I'm better at 3v3, it's just more fun!

Unfortunately, I don't think this is gonna work as its already been decided and pretty much everyone wants 4v4s now. Maybe the cup will now be 3v3s, or there could be another league for 3v3s. We'd probably have to organise that league like the way the reserves league is organised here otherwise it would be a hell of a workload for the admins.

My view is influenced i guess by my situation here - many of you have had a long time to get used to (and bored of?) 3v3 - i was just becoming used to it & now with this change to 4v4, i'm pretty much back where i started as that game is very different in terms of skill required & time allowed to 3's. Also in the gk position in 3's, you can & do become actively involved in the game. But in the 4's with a good side in front of you, the involvement is much less...

I see your point, but I must say that playing 4vs4 as GK gives better practice as there are more players and more possible situations to be aware of, while it forces you to trust your teammates to do their part aswell. While playing 4vs4, you'll still be very much effective in 3vs3. Even though you're not actively involved as much, your positioning are still very much important and you're still stopping some of those counterattacks and picking up loose balls. It's true though, the better you and your team are, the less time you'll be with the ball, but remember that sometimes just being on the right place on the right time is all you need to stop those counterattacks without even touching the ball.

You make some good points there Vargo.

it forces you to trust your teammates to do their part aswell

>> I've had to be told repeatedly NOT to commit to situations a team mate is already dealing with & it's finally beginning to sink in :)

less time you'll be with the ball,

>> I guess this is the problem I have - to be in games all the time like that, never really getting a feel for the ball - when your confidence isn't great to begin with, it doesn't really help to improve as a player. I've started to try to play outside of goal (badly) for a change of scene...

I'm glad to see (or hear) that i'm not the only one who keeps having your song pop up in their head. I've played more than one game with those lyrics spinning round in mine :)

Well if you're that uncomfortable without the ball, then maybe GK isn't the right position for you. If you still want to defend though I would recommend Defensive Mid as an alternative for 4vs4. It's very much alike to being GK in 3vs3 except with the confidence of having a teammate behind you should you lose the ball in their half.

As a DM your biggest responsibility is to make sure your GK never ends up in a 2vs1 situation and secondly provide a passing oppertunity for the attack. You'll also be taking alot of defensive corners, marking front post, marking attackers, intercepting crosses etc. It's all depending on your GK and how you both adapt to each others play. If he closes down, you cover the goal, if you take the corner, he'll take the front post. If your team use rigid positions, then you'll have an even more specific job which might be easier to start with when getting used to play with each other.
