Back Passes?

Are back passes good or bad? I reckon if you really need to go backwards and you're under pressure then fine, do it, but some people do it when they've got loads of other options. Back passing just invites pressure on to your defenders really when you could actually carry on with an attack. People think they're the Barcelona of Haxball when that way doesn't work on Haxball. I've gone for bad, but it's alright if you have no options available.

Thoughts?

Same as you donny. Sometimes they can work, but most of the time if there's nothing on just send it forward to gain territory.

Good, instead of bringing pressure to the defenders, it takes the pressure off the attackers to lose the ball if you have a decent team.

I think they can work if the attack breaks down but the oposition doesnt have anyone close enough to pressure your defender. Sort of like starting your attack all over again. Or in oddly specific situations like you have a player open across the field but theres someone close to you blocking the direct pass. In that situation you could flick it back and your keeper/defender could make the pass.

Other than that its just loosing territory and maybe even putting pressure on your defence.

No, if you do a back pass with certain people like me, then you'll start a counter attack because the striker will probably dive in, if not, then you'll have time to think about starting a new attack.

How can anyone back pass to you when you're stood on the goal line? Image

Back passes are good at certain times. Agree with CircleBoy.

lol

having played 4v4, I don't think we backpass enough. If we're only playing it between 2 players then it gets boring and predictable. If we use the defender more then the opposition gets drawn out easily and you can play it in behind them for more space and time to attack.

I saw a lot of teams backpassing in the CL and it seemed effective.

I'm sure my lot would agree with that opinion, and if i'm entirely honest, i do too. The reason I prefer them not to pass back to me stems from my own lack of confidence rather than a belief the tactic is wrong...

Which part of the pitch are the back passes happening in?

Good point Griff - i took it to mean the attacking third - ie. recycling the attack - but i've seen the likes of Jonny make devastating attacks out of passes back into the defensive third...
