people need to pass back to the player if they are in the position though, barely anyone actually does that

The reason isn't to pass back... Main reason to be back of the attacking guy in the corner(with the ball ofc) is to get the lost balls and avoid the counter attack...
When there's someone in corner(in atttack) there has to be some other in front of the cage and that one behind the guy in corner. Any other way to attack is almost useless

that's not totally true ovo because if the man behind the corner doesn't stay there he loses many balls next to the side line.
sure that triangulation is best way to play 4v4 but I think that should be the position in attack. And best way to improve in 4v4 is to play a league where they have experience on it. that's how i learnt to play 4v4(after i realized i sucked at it), I don't know when and where i forgot my skills :(
