CORNER PLAY! [READ HERE NOOBS! ;) ]

Postby Maddude » August 28th, 2011, 10:20 pm

So it seems some people need some help with corner play.
Here is a picture for 4v4 corner play with tips.

Image

For this to work in 3v3 the blue mid would move back to just in front of where the blue gk would normally be but still doing the same sort of thing as it tells you to do.

Also player 2 would move down to just diagonally up-right to the gk to block the cross. Then player 3 would move up to pressurise the blues gk/defender and get the clearances for a counter attack.

Whilst defending the two who are defending the cross/shot here's some help for you;
If you are the GK stay on the post until the cross comes in, if it is going nearer to the post than your defender then go for it, otherwise stay on the post depending on the situation, if the cross gets past the defender and the opposition looks like they are going to shoot try to block the angle by the post nearest to them; your defender should block the angle across goal otherwise its a >Blazingfag tbh :/
If you are the defender/mid blocking the cross then go for the cross or if you know you can't get it try to block the cross back across goal/shot from the opposition player.

Attacking from corners:
If you are the person in the corner either wall bounce or cross to your teammate down low/up high. If you get it to them and you see they are going to shoot try to get in place for another shot/cross if it deflects off the GK towards you or the surrounding area, this way you keep the pressure up and many GK's can only make one good save in a row and then are out of position leading to an easy goal (Blazing Image)
If you are the one looking to get the cross make sure to keep moving to hopefully make the defender and GK move so your teammate has an easy cross and you have an easier clear shot. If the cross is not great and you have no option to shoot on goal then try to get the cross back to your teammate who can then hopefully shoot/cross again till you have an angle to score in.
Playing as the defender/GK you should try to look for clearances and feed them back in for an easy cross/shot to help keep the pressure up, if you think you will lose the wall fight with their FWD then back away to goal, THERE IS NO SHAME IN THIS! Just do not sit on the line (>Blazing).

As the two attackers/mids only pass back if their is no other choice or the opposition is bussing :/ Then get in position for the ball back to you to get that cross in!

Final tips for corner play:
1. Don't just spam running in.
2. If winning even if its by one goal just try to block the cross rather than pressure them as much.
3. If you are waiting for the clearance watch for the back pass.
4. If you are GK stay on the front post! (Unless otherwise needed)
5. Keep moving unless your the GK!

The problem with Number 1 is that sometimes he accidentally causes own goals just cause blue get the ball in to the box.

It's a nice thing you made though. :o

Yeah, 1 could block and it could hit 3 I think or who ever is trying to block or get to 5 and it could cayuse an own goal.

If 1 stands far back enough then he can't score an OG because he won't be able to get the angle on the ball. The GK is right to be where he is, 1 just needs to be a little bit further towards the goal and a little bit towards the bottom but otherwise it's about right.

1 & 3 need to get right out of the way and stop complicating things.

There's no need for the keeper to stand on his near post unless 2 is retarded, and if he is then he shouldn't be anywhere near the corner he should be standing out of the way while 1 or 3 else gets the ball out of there.

If 3 goes and stands out on the right wing then either 6 or 7 have to go over there to mark him, which makes getting the ball out of the corner even easier.

And most importantly take your time. Unless you're facing me, jonny or deer in that corner battle your opponent is as incompetent as you are so just let him make the mistake rather than you rushing to do it.

It's all pointless anyway. We play 3v3 here, and most of time when we do 4v4 we don't play anywhere near serious enough to consider tactics anyway(guaranteed at least 5 intentional og's per day).

Most of the tactics can be approximated to 3v3 play, all you need to do as the defending team is decide which of the 3 roles the 2 outfield players will play, and the same for the attacking team, but the GK can push up too if they're really looking for a goal.

Haven't read the guide, just posting what I feel in a simple way, on 3v3.

One person in the corner blocking where they are poised to pass/shoot.
One person on the front post.
One person stopping the cross that rebounds off the wall and out of the front post guys reach.

I've noticed that more often than not if you've got a guy in the corner spamming the kick button the ball tends to get cleared rather than becoming a dangerous attack.

Maybe the noobs have got it right with their run & gun mentality? Image

Yep, most of the time the guys on defense who cautiously wait for the attacker in the corner to make a move first end up helpless when he bounces the ball to the sidewall and becomes free to cross it in front of the goal...

What i do is cautiously wait and use angles. My priority isnt to clear, just stop the attack and after 20 seconds of patience, it clears. Honestly, a 90% success rate. 9% maybe, front post clears. Rarely rarely a goal. Rough but honest percentages.

When attacking the corner I just be a prick and wait unless I am certain to be able to cross, otherwise I'll stall until someone on the opposition runs in spamming the kick button.

I think I was playing in an FM room with deer when he did that and I did the same in def...we just stood there next to the ball doing nothing for 5-10 seconds.
